How to Get New Emojis on Android
Emojis are fun and expressive, but how do you get more of them on your Android phone? Here are five things you can do to get the latest ones.
Emojis add color and life to our chats by expressing our feelings accurately. A Rolling on the Floor Laughing emoji is the best way to show how hilarious something is.
Emojis keep changing, and you don’t want to miss out on the latest ones. Luckily, you can find out how to get new emojis on your Android phone, create your emojis, or even use the ones from iOS.
To get the latest emojis on your Android device, follow these steps.
1. Update to the Latest Android Version
New emojis come with every new version of Android. For instance, Android 11 added 117 new characters and redesigned over 2,000 existing ones in another Android emoji update. To get the latest keyboard emojis, always keep your Android device updated.

To check if this update is available on your Android device, follow these steps:
- To check your phone’s Android version, access the Settings menu on your device, then navigate to About Phone. Depending on your device, you may need to go through System first. Once there, tap on the software version to find out which Android update you currently use. If it still needs to be the latest version, move on to the next step.
- You can revisit the Settings menu and select About Phone to see if any updates are available. If so, tap on the update button and then select Install. It’s important to be connected to a Wi-Fi network or mobile internet connection while doing this.
- To verify the success of the update, open any messenger app and attempt to locate the Ninja or Black emoji while typing. These are relatively new additions to the Android version.
Unfortunately, some Android phone makers are slow or inconsistent with software updates, which might prevent you from getting this feature. However, you still have other options to explore.
2. Use Emoji Kitchen

With Gboard, Google’s native keyboard app, you can easily get new emojis on Android. The Emoji Kitchen feature lets you mix and match your stickers. This is how you can use this tool to create a new emoji:
- Launch the app you use for messaging, such as Facebook Messenger.
- To begin a chat, select any contact from the list.
- Start typing by tapping on the text bar.
- To use the Emoji Kitchen feature, choose an emoji from the keyboard. Look for the button with a smiley face on it and tap it. Ensure you don’t confuse it with the one near the message input area. Then, pick your favorite emoji from the list.
- Swipe the top of your keyboard to browse different emoji stickers. Please tap on the one you like to share it.
Remember that the new Emoji Kitchen feature may not work on some messaging apps. Also, you can learn more about the different emoji faces and what they mean from our guide.
3. Install a New Keyboard
If you want to access more emojis, you can also try downloading a different emoji keyboard for Android. Some apps, like the Emoji Keyboard, have an icon glossary that lets you quickly look up what each emoji means.
In addition, you can use the app to predict what you want to say and share stickers and GIFs on social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram.
To use a different keyboard on your phone, follow these steps to install it:
- To find the keyboard app you want, open Google Play from your phone’s menu and enter its name in the search bar at the top.
- Then, press Install. You can explore other alternatives if your phone does not support the keyboard app.
- Do not proceed until the download completes.
Some of the best third-party keyboard apps that you can select are:
- Ginger
- Chrooma
- Fleksy
- Microsoft SwiftKey
If you want to try something different from Gboard, the default keyboard app from Google, you might like these apps. You can also explore the keyboards with some devices, like Samsung’s.
4. Make Your Own Custom Emoji
You can create your personalized emoji that match your style and mood. Many apps on the Google Play Store let you make emojis on your Android devices. Memoji is one of them that can turn your face into an emoji.

If you want to create your emojis on your phone, you need to download a third-party keyboard app. Bitmoji is a great choice because it lets you make personalized emojis and has a lot of stickers to choose from.
To access more emojis on Android, follow these steps if you’re new to this app.
- Create an account with your email or use your Snapchat account to register and log in instantly. If you have an existing account, enter your credentials to sign in.
- Then, choose a gender for your Bitmoji avatar. You can either use a selfie to create an avatar that looks like you or build one from scratch. You can also change your outfit, hair, skin tone, etc.
- When your avatar looks good, tap Save on the upper-right corner of your screen to save it.
- To open the Bitmoji Keyboard tab, select Keyboard. Next, enable Bitmoji Keyboard by tapping Turn on Keyboard and switching it on in Settings.
- To use Bitmoji as your main keyboard, you must enable it first. Then, you will see a Switch Keyboard option. Tap on it and choose Bitmoji from the pop-up menu.
Please make your face emojis and have fun sharing them with your social media contacts, whether they are friends or family.
5. Use a Font Editor
Some people may think that the emojis on Apple’s iOS are more appealing than the ones on Google’s Android. To get iOS emojis on your Android device, you can use a font editor app like front. You can find this app on Google Play Store.

To update emojis on Android, follow these steps after downloading the app:
- To get emoji files from various online platforms such as Windows, Facebook, WhatsApp, or JoyPixel, go to the app’s home screen and swipe until you see the Emoji section.
- See all the emoji packages on zFont by tapping See all.
- To save the latest iOS version on your device, select it and click Download on the Font Preview page. You will see a preview of the new emojis once the download is complete.
- Choose Apply and then pick how you want to install it. For this example, we’ll go with via Theme, but feel free to try a different option if this one doesn’t work for you.
- Finally, open the Theme Manager app on your phone and select the version you just downloaded. Tap on Apply and wait for a few minutes until the theme is changed.
Be aware that some fonts may not display properly in font editors such as zFont due to compatibility problems. Also, the app has many pop-up ads and does not support bitmap emoji font merging.
BONUS: Wait for Google to Add the New Emojis
If you want to access new emojis, you have two options. You can either wait for Google to update them or download the beta version of the Gboard app and try them out first.
Updating your emojis is simple, no matter which way you do it. You can also enjoy other perks when you install a new keyboard. Plus, switching your keyboard is easy too.
